Untitled Poem #1 (based on the “Poem to Two Parents” prompt in The Magic Words: Simple Poetry Prompts That Unlock the Creativity in Everyone by Joseph Fasano)

Mother, you are the out of sync starling.

Father, you are the soaring crow.

Together, you are the stars

hung for me, alone.

*

I carry you with me

the way the saints carry miracles

cupped in their dripping palms:

carefully given; each sip precious.

*

In your language of spring, speak to me all my life.

*

I will be the oak that steadies you.

*

When you are strong, I will praise you.

*

When you are tired -

oh, so tired -

I will be the one to call you home.

Untitled Poem #2 (based on the “Anger” prompt in The Magic Words: Simple Poetry Prompts That Unlock the Creativity in Everyone by Joseph Fasano)
